Åland Islands - The Closest Thing to Shangri-La

Åland is the sunniest spot in northern Europe. Scenic cycling routes and beautiful nature attract crowds of holidaymakers during summer. The Åland islands also offer activities from adventurous island-hopping to boating, fishing and golfing.

The Åland archipelago consists of around 6 500 islands located between Finland and Sweden, but only more than 60 islands are inhabited. Although the people of Åland speak Swedish, this autonomous territory is part of Finland. Åland has its own taxation system, its own postage stamps, and its own blue-yellow flag.
